Quick start

Adding Traffic channel

General Information about Traffic channel

What is a Traffic channel in RedTrack?

Traffic channel is where you get your traffic from. It can either be a paid channel of traffic like Google Ads, Facebook, MGID, Propellerads, etc. or your own website with organic traffic. In both cases, it is obligatory to add it to your account.

How do you add Traffic channel depending on its type?

Paid channels of traffic can be added in one of the following ways:

  • from template. Meaning, that your Traffic channel has already been integrated with RedTrack and it has a preset table with all the necessary data. For further details on this option scroll down this guide to the section “Adding Traffic channel from the template“;
  • from scratch. Meaning, that your Traffic channel has not been integrated with RedTrack yet and it needs to be added customly. For further details on this option scroll down this guide to the section “Adding a custom channel of traffic“.

Your own website with organic traffic can be added by following the steps in the section “Adding a personal website with organic traffic” in the guide below.

Adding Traffic channel from the template

To add Traffic channel from the template act as follows:

1. On the RedTrack main menu go to Traffic channel -> choose the option New from template:

2. Type in the name of your Traffic channel in search and press ADD:

On the example of ExoClick (screen above) we can see that this Traffic channel is integrated with RedTrack via API, providing the clients opportunity to explore such automation features as Cost update, Campaign pause, Blacklist placement, Pause creative. For more information about integrated Traffic channels and their features go to the article Traffic channel integration status.

3. Upon adding a template, you will see that all the essential tracking parameters have already been filled in:

  • postback URL. Some of the traffic channels require updating one or two parameters, in that case, you will see the “replace me” note in the postback);
  • click and cost parameters (if applicable);
  • additional tracking parameters.

Important!
The S2S postback URL is only the template here. The changes are not replicated to your campaign settings automatically, you need to update the postbacks manually in each campaign.

4. Set the Currency of your Traffic channel choosing it from the drop-down (by default, it’s the one set under your account settings):

5. The template is preset depending on the integration type. Thus, not all the parameters in the Additional parameters section can be changed. Parameters not available for editing are marked greyed:

It’s important to use the parameters under the same subs as they are set in the template. Otherwise, the integration will not work.

6. If your channel of traffic is integrated into RedTrack, you can also add the required information to your traffic channel settings and enjoy the extended integration features (available starting from Pro subscription):

Adding a personal website with organic traffic

To add your website organic traffic act as follows:

1. On the RedTrack main menu go to Traffic channels -> choose the option New from scratch:

2. In the pop-up window type in the name of your personal website with organic traffic in the Channel name field:

3. Since you do not generate any tracking dynamic parameters and do not need to send the postback to your website, leave everything else blank and press Save the changes:

Adding a custom channel of traffic

In case your channel of traffic is not available in the templates, you can still add it to RedTrack customly. To do that act as follows:

1. On the RedTrack main menu go to Traffic channels -> choose the option New from scratch:

2. In the New Traffic channels window fill in all the necessary fields:

  • Channel name: insert the name of your custom traffic channel;
  • Currency: set the currency of your Trafficchannel choosing it from the drop-down;
  • S2S Postback URL: This can be obtained from your traffic channel and contain a valid click id macro supported by this very traffic channel. The click id macro should be equal to RedTrack {ref_id}. If you need to send the payout info, use RedTrack {offer_payout} macro. Set the currency used in your traffic channel (by default, it’s the one you set in your profile settings);

Important: The changes in S2S postback URL are not replicated to your campaign settings automatically, you need to update the postbacks manually in each campaign used.

  • Pixel Postback URL: if your channel of traffic supports this type of postback. Do not paste the entire script, just the URL part;
  • Click id  (for tracking the clicks from your channel of the traffic and associate them with the conversion data and sending the postbacks back to the traffic chanel later) and click cost macros.
  • Additional tracking parameters: if your traffic channel supports any other tracking parameters, you can add them to your RedTrack account. Like that, those parameters will be added to your tracking link, and all the data your channel of traffic sends will be recorded in RedTrack.

3. Once all the data is filled in, press Save changes:
